Join the fight to Conquer Chiari
When middle school student Nicole Tobey was diagnosed with
Chiari Malformation, her schoolmates rallied around in support.
Nicole and her family are now asking that the community join the
fight against Chiari by supporting Nicole at the Conquer Chiari
Walk Across America fundraiser on September 18 in Cohoes. (more

State budget shortfall forces changes to student exams
F-F middle and high school students to take
fewer tests
Fonda-Fultonville middle school and high school students will
take fewer state exams in the coming school year following the
New York State Education Department's announcement that it will
no longer offer certain exams in an effort to reduce its costs.

Mixed news in 3-8 math and ELA scores
Fonda-Fultonville still among area's highest
Fonda-Fultonville students perform among the area's best on
grades 3-8 ELA and math tests according to the latest results
released by New York State Education Department. Scores released
on July 28 show that FFCS students rank consistently above the
average for Montgomery and Fulton counties and New York State. (view
ELA results;

That good news is tempered by the fact that the state has
restructured the scale it uses to measure individual student
performance. As a result, despite steady or slightly improved
scores on the exams, fewer students met the proficiency standard
than in years past. (full

2010-11 Tools for Schools kicks off
The Price Chopper "Tools for School" program kicked
off on Sunday, August 1st. Fonda-Fultonville program coordinator
Robyn Rose reminds everyone, "Please make sure you have designated
FFCS as your school to receive the points you earn. Spread the word
to friends and relatives to sign up and designate FFCS as their
school as well. We hope to have another successful year." (Learn

Share your favorite recipe
The research shows that kids who eat healthy
meals do better in school. Our problem is finding a good
assortment of things kids like to eat. We check out the recipe
books and talk to other school cafeteria directors. We get some
good ideas, but we want more!
How better to expand our menu than have you
share your child's favorite recipe?
Anything we cook has to meet federal nutrition
guidelines and we need to be able to efficiently prepare
hundreds of servings—so we can't promise to cook everything! If
you have a recipe that kids like, send it to us. If we use it,
we will give you the credit on our school menu. Send your recipe
to Darla Sandford (dsandford@ffcsd.org).
District still accepting UPK applications
Although Friday, May 7 deadline for all 2010-11
Universal Pre-kindergarten applications is past, residents may
still apply. Students will be assigned on a first-come, first-served
basis should spaces become available.
Learn more about
the process and download an application form.
Is your emergency contact information up-to-date?
If your child became seriously ill at school, could we reach
you? If there were an emergency school closing, how would we let
you know?
Whether for a snow day or some school emergency, school
officials occasionally need to contact parents/guardians with
important information. We rely on the emergency contact
information that you provide at the beginning of each year. But,
people move; phone numbers and e-mail addresses change. In the
event of an emergency, could we reach you? Don't leave things to
chance; please contact your school with any changes to your
emergency contact information.
